An Elephant and Five Blind Men
An Elephant and Five Blind Men
Many many years ago, there were five blind men. One day, they were walking on the street. Suddenly, they heard some people talking about a big and heavy elephant.
They all wanted to know what the elephant looked like. The first blind person was a tall man and he touched the elephant’s back. He said, “The elephant looks like a bed. It’s very cozy.” The second blind man was short and touched the elephant’s legs. He said to the first man, “You are wrong. It looks like a pillar.” The third man touched the elephant’s ears. He cried at once, “No! The elephant looks like a big fan.” The fourth blind man touched the elephant’s nose. He said, “Don’t quarrel! It is very long and soft.” The last blind person touched the elephant’s tail. He rebutted, “The elephant looks like a rope. You are all wrong!”
In fact, each of them touched only a part of the elephant, but thought he had touched the whole body of the elephant. How silly they are!
